They say it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a master at something. After 15 years behind the chair, I would say I’ve definitely clocked that time plus some. But I didn’t become good at this because I tried, I became great at this because I failed. Like, a lot.

One of my favorite stories to tell is how the first set of keratin extensions I ever installed, fell out. Like every strand. On the bright side, it meant I didn’t have to do the removal lol. But what it really told me is that just because I took a class on how to do it doesn’t mean I was ready to be offering it to my clients.
.
After all this time, you think my mistakes are behind me… WRONG. Shit happens. As an artist, you can’t have your best day every single day and that is OK. Messing up doesn’t mean giving up.
.
When mistakes happen, (because they WILL) don’t stress, this is a learning moment. Figure out what went wrong, and why, so that you never make this mistake again.

Now i know the term ‘perfect’ is subjective, but in my humble opinion a well made bond comes down to a small set of intentional choices…

Size & shape
Bonds should be small, clean, & proportional to the section it’s attached to.
.
Your sectioning should be doing most of the work
The bond itself is only as good as the section beneath it. Clean, even sections with zero cross hairs lead to longevity.
.
Fully sealed, never over worked
Bonds should be completely sealed around the natural hair with smooth edges. Over working weakens the structural integrity of a bond.
.
Comfort matters
If you feel tightness, poking, or pulling, it’s not perfect. Bonds should never feel uncomfortable.
.
Clean & healthy growth
Upon removal the bond is still intact & sitting exactly where it should. No slipping, no matting, no twisting.

The best bonds aren’t noticed, they simply exist.

It was the perfect reminder that while a flawless installation matters, it’s only a small part of the story. I always say 10% of a healthy grow out is the install… and 90% is how you care for it at home.

A clean, balanced install sets the foundation for proper bond size, strategic placement, and weight distribution all help extensions grow out comfortably. But what really determines how they look months later is daily maintenance.
